A few days back I celebrated my birthday with addition of 2 new apps in the appstore – Tits and Boobies & Pussy Lovers

Guess what withing 24 hours – these 2 apps got into the top 10 apps in their category. I had around 20,000 downloads for each app within the first 24 hours and as per now – 5 days since its birth – Tits and Boobies is ranked 2nd in Education category and Pussy Lovers is ranked 8th in Lifestyle category

The secret to their success is not coz what content it carries but what names they carry. To make it better Apple added some “*” to the word tits and pussy. Just because of that I might have got 10,000 more downloads.

When people see names they assume the first thing that comes in their head and dont see what it really means. These 2 apps take advantage of this and made it to the top of the chart.

Also not just that – It increased the sales of my other application. Yes – so it didnt just get a lot of downloads it also helped my other apps to get some recognition.

The first step to make any App a success is to get a catchy and appropriate name for it and then make sure you are recognized in the market.

Google made a few apps for Apple and every time they were rejected there used be such huge press – Why do you think it gets such great press – coz its “Google”. I didnt get any support when my “Kamasutra” App which had 2 stick figures got rejected – It was just 2 stick figures – There are apps that show real boobs in market. Why are they allowed and not Stick Figures. Anyways Android supported me and I got my App to Android users. I have not given up yet though

The day I started programming for iPhone my knowledge about Objective C was zero. I started ground up and made some really crappy apps – and guess what at that time those apps were a major hit. My iOthello App, Board Games – it got thousands of downloads over the first few months. Only until a few months back the big sharks came in the market and started making really cool applications with better graphics and better Design and ofcourse way talented developers(hundreds of them ).

This rise in applications pushed programmers like me to rethink strategy or either get a job there. I didnt give up – I didnt go to them for a job. I started making apps that make no sense at all but with great catchy names.

Here comes “Tits and Boobies” and “Pussy Lovers” – How many of you will download it just by looking at the name – not to mention it has a 4+ rating. Doesnt it make you curious to know how come apple approved this app and whats in it. Yes it does – It sure does to me and I will ofcourse download it – you know why – COZ ITS FREE.

Its true FREE application get downloaded 300 times more then PAID application. Now the question is why will you make FREE apps – doesnt make sense right?

Answer: If you see my apps are not really free they sell ads in them.

Now the next question how much money will I make off ads…. Ok if you dont know let me tell you – In last 4 months of using ads – i was able to pay of fmy student loan – I paid off my car payments (Brand New Car) – I pay my rent and pay for food and still able to save some more so I can go for vacation.

Is it worth it ???? TOTALLY.

I didnt become a millionaire and retire off to the islands – i heard a lot of stories but didnt meet a single person – probably coz they are off on the islands.

But I guess for what my applications do I am pretty happy with what they pay me back. I have 41 applications on Android and around 33 applications on iPhone and I dotn think I have to work another day until end of next year or as long as these phones stay alive in market.

If you have still not started making your apps – start today its not late yet. Dont get scared of the big numbers of Applications that are already in market – every application has an equal opportunity as long as it gets the word out properly.
